What is a showcase plantation?
In 2021, we planted 200,000 coffee plants. From this, 150,000 plants have sprouted and in 2022 we have distributed some of the plants to 46 farmers so far. The number of farmers will increase in the near future. The idea is to support the farmers in this way to expand or renew their farms. It is essential for the survival of a coffee plantation that the coffee trees are renewed every few years.
An important mission of this initiative is the transfer of knowledge to farmers. However, since we do not have the capacity to travel regularly and on a long-term basis to all the villages (currently about 15 – 20 villages) of the participating farmers and to conduct the training there, the idea of the “showcase plantation” was born!
The showcase plantation is a plantation right next to our coffee processing station in Macenta. We built the showcase plantation ourselves in the summer of 2022. It is used to invite the farmers to come and do training here — we will invite experts, show how to plant the coffee plants properly, care for them and also how best to harvest the coffee cherries. In the future, it will be a place where farmers can learn, exchange ideas and network.
From the sale of the postcards, 100% of the profits go towards maintaining the flagship plantation.
